Scripture Passage: 1 John 2:1 (NIV)
“My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.”
The Apostle John wrote this letter to encourage believers to live in obedience to God and avoid sin. However, he also reassures them that when they do fall, Jesus acts as their advocate before God. His role as the Righteous One means He is uniquely qualified to represent us, offering forgiveness through His sacrifice.
This passage reminds us that while God calls us to walk in holiness, He also knows our weaknesses. When we stumble, we can turn to Jesus, who intercedes on our behalf. His advocacy is rooted in His love and righteousness, not in our ability to be perfect.
Consider a defense attorney who represents someone in court. The accused might be guilty, but the attorney stands up for them, making the case for mercy. Similarly, Jesus pleads our case before the Father, not denying our sin but offering His righteousness in exchange for our guilt.
How does knowing Jesus is your advocate impact the way you approach your failures? When you fall short, do you run toward Him or away from Him?
Today, embrace the assurance that Jesus is always interceding for you. When you sin, don’t hide in shame—bring your shortcomings to Him and receive His grace.
Today’s Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank You for being my advocate when I fall. Help me to walk in obedience, but when I do stumble, remind me of Your constant presence and love. Give me the courage to come to You with my failures and trust in Your righteousness. In Your name, Amen.
